Purpose

The After School Program we offer to resident children provides a safe place for play and study.

Description

We provide games and crafts, as well as tutoring and homework help to 25-30 children who reside at one of CPAH’s low-income complexes. The program is open to kids in grades K through 8.

Qualifications

Volunteers at CPAH’s After School Program help resident children with their homework, supervise activities and games, and serve as positive role models. They have a desire to work with children, are comfortable supervising activities and are willing to read aloud/assist with homework.

Location

Currently, we offer After School Programs at three of our housing sites in Tigard and Beaverton.

Days and Hours

Our After School Programs follow a three-day schedule on various days, based on location, Monday – Thursday, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. We prefer volunteers who are committed for at least a couple of months. However, those who would like to volunteer on a more infrequent basis are welcome. Most volunteers come in one to two days a week.

Purpose

Onsite computer rooms at CPAH properties help residents connect with friends, family, jobs and resources.

Description

We have onsite computer rooms available for resident use, but need to be supervised to keep the computers functioning.

Qualifications

Volunteers supervising the computer room should have basic familiarity with computers and be able to answer general questions about word processing and internet programs.

Location

At one of our housing sites in Tigard, off Greenburg Road.

Days and Hours

Residents generally request evening and weekend hours for computer room time. These are flexible and can be established depending on the volunteer’s schedule. We prefer volunteers who can commit for at least a couple of months, usually for a couple hours one day a week.

We offer a variety of events at each of our housing sites to foster a positive sense of community.

Qualifications

Volunteers helping with Community Events are interested in meeting new people, are comfortable setting up tables/chairs, serving refreshments.
If a volunteer group is leading an activity it is helpful if they have some past experience organizing small to medium-sized groups.

Location

At our housing sites in Tigard and SW Portland area.

Days and Hours

These are typically evening events, but are flexible depending on the volunteer’s schedule. An event can also be a one-time volunteer project for a group.
