Summer Youth Program

Since 1998, CPAH has run its OAKS Summer Youth Program at Greenburg Oaks Apartments. (OAKS: Open minded, Active, Kind and Smart) This program, aimed at kids ages 5 through 14, offers resident children the opportunity to participate in educational and recreational activities.

High quality summer programming improves school readiness and school performance. The CPAH Summer Youth Program aims to do just that, operating four hours a day, five days a week.

Over the course of 11 weeks, youngsters have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of enrichment activities such as cooking, crafts, gardening, sports and environmental education. Thanks to our partnership with the Beaverton School District, the kids also receive breakfast and lunch free of charge.

In addition to the many on-site activities, participants in the Summer Program are able to take part in weekly field trips. The outings generally coordinate with the week’s theme and have included trips to OMSI, local state parks, the Oregon Coast and Aquarium, Magnus Tree Farm and A.C. Gilbert House.

One goal of the OAKS Summer Youth Program is to expose children to cultural, scientific and educational opportunities they may otherwise miss, while encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle. This year we are partnering with YMCA Camp Collins to send 20 of our kids to sleep away camp for one week.

The final days of program focus on the return to school. With generous donations and assistance from the Tigard United Methodist Church, Tigard Morning Rotary and other groups, we have been able to provide more than 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to resident children for the past eight years.

We always need volunteers. Come see what a difference the program makes to CPAH's kids!
